Dear Friends,
We wanted you to be among the first to read the tribute to Ian that will be printed in his hometown newspaper tomorrow. Thank you again for all of your love and support:

Ian Harleman, a lover of music, people, and life, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011. He was 24.
Ian’s death was attributed to injuries sustained in a car accident one week earlier. His final days were spent surrounded by family, friends, music he loved and pictures.
Ian attended Community Nursery School of Wilton and Wilton public schools. He is a graduate of Wilton High School and Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida where he received a degree in Recording Arts. Ian had multiple interests, but music was his greatest passion. He recently attended his 115th Phish show, and performed as a drummer at the Grange Fair in Wilton.
Ian will be remembered for his tender soul and kind heart – he had an unparalleled ability to permanently impact the lives he touched. A memorial service will be held to honor Ian on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wilton, Connecticut.
Ian is survived by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth, two sisters, Kate and Annie, grandfather, Clinton Scharff, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Ian’s family requests that donations in memory of Ian be directed to:

Journey to Heaven
Early this morning, our beloved Ian peacefully completed his journey to heaven. Ian slept calmly during his final days, surrounded by family, friends, music he loved, and pictures.
Ian's memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's Church located at 36 New Canaan Road in Wilton, Connecticut.
We invite you to join us to celebrate Ian's life and to stay for a reception afterwards. There will be an opportunity to sign a memory book. If you have a special photograph, memento, or story about Ian, please bring it on Saturday, or email it to Ian's oldest sister, Kate at Kate.Harleman@gmail.com.
This week we need to spend time with our family. We are very well taken care of in terms of food and support. We will need your love, friendship, and strong arms for a long time to come, and we promise to let you know ways to support us. For now, please keep Ian and our family in your prayers. You can also contact the three people listed in our first blog with any questions.
Please continue to post your memories of Ian on this blog. Your words bring us great solace.
With Love,
Elizabeth, Bob, Kate and Annie

Our Beloved Ian
Dear Friends,
Three neurosurgeons agreed that Ian's current medical prognosis is unlikely to change. Ian suffered a severe brain injury and there is no possibility that he could sustain a quality of life that he would deem fulfilling.
After much thought and prayer, we have decided to move Ian from the ICU to the hospital's hospice floor. This morning Ian's respirator was removed. He is breathing on his own, but we are not going to intervene to prolong his life through additional artificial means.
We know, from a recent conversation with Ian, that this would have been his wish. The hospice facility will allow Ian to rest with great care and in peace. The doctors and nursing staff have been so responsive and supportive, and we are surrounded by family and our closest friends. Ian will even get a visit from his beloved dogs.
No one knows how many more days Ian will be with us, but we will be keeping vigil faithfully as he makes his journey towards heaven.
Thank you for your loving words, notes and prayers. Please continue to post messages on this blog as we are reading them to him daily.
With Love,
Elizabeth, Bob, Kate and Annie

First Update
Dear Family and Friends,
We are deeply saddened to share news that our beloved Ian sustained very serious brain injuries after a car accident early Saturday morning, August 27th. Nobody else was involved in the accident. Ian is in the Intensive Care Unit at Norwalk Hospital, stable, but in a very deep coma. Initial test results reveal extensive damage to different areas of his brain. We are in the process of receiving another reading of the tests from the Head of Neurosurgery at Cornell-New York Hospital.
The four of us are together at Ian's bedside. Our home and dogs are being well cared for. For the time being, we ask that you not visit the hospital or stop by the house. But we feel your love and support in so many ways, and this blog will be a good medium for us to share the latest information.
We encourage you to post on this blog or to send Ian a card. Most importantly, please keep Ian in your thoughts and prayers. We will be reading him the messages you send in hopes he might hear your words.
If you would like additional information please email or call:
